Doreen Bermudez

Doreen Bermudez is the Program Manager for SAGEDay, a Partnership with Hebrew Home at Riverdale. Doreen has been working for 16 years in the community based sector. Prior to this position, she was the Director of Social Adult Day Services at Union Settlement Association in East Harlem; where she managed the organizations’ first Social Adult Day Center and created infrastructure for referral systems within the organization and other community based partners.

Previously, Doreen worked at SAGE from 2005 to 2013. Her last role was National Training Coordinator of the Historical National Resource Center on LGBT Aging. In this position she facilitated trainings nationwide on LGBT aging to mainstream and lgbt aging network service providers. Previously she was SAGE’s full time trainer in the Advocacy and Training Department where she organized and presented on HIV and Aging issues in New York City and LGBT Case Management Cultural Competency since 2006.

Doreen has been instrumental in the organizational efforts to provide a voice to LGBT older adults through her trainings at the Department for the Aging in NYC and most recently at the Philadelphia Aging Corporation.

Prior to coming to SAGE Doreen worked as a consultant for the Puerto Rican Family Institute Inc on HIV Services for teenagers. This initiatve brought the NYC Department of Education to pay close attention to health education in varoius high schools in NYC. She is a graduate of SUNY New Paltz in Education and Latin American Studies. She is active in various initiatives in NYC dealing directly with LGBT Elders. Doreen is an active member of the Community Services Society of New York Advocate group, United Latino Professionals and a board member of the New York State HIV over Fifty.

Doreen lives in NYC with her two boys and on her personal time volunteers with her kids in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Favorite Training Experience: Doreen enjoys when providers actively commit to create a safe welcoming environment and inclusive practices within their organizations after a training.
