Robert Versteeg obtained his Masters in Social Work in 2000. With his focus on gerontology, he has worked as a social worker in a variety of health care settings, such as skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, and hospice organizations. He has been working with SunServe for the past three years, and is mainly involved in their Senior LGBT Sensitivity Training program.
He is expected to obtain his Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) in January 2016, for which he has done research in a health care facility on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The focus of his research is the dual discrimination faced by LGBT elders in health care: homophobia combined with ageism.
Born in The Netherlands, Robert brings a uniquely liberal view to LGBT rights, combining European and American philosophies. Having lived in New York City; Portland, Maine; Cape Cod, MA, and South Florida, he has been able to observe and experience different LGBT communities, and brings that knowledge to the trainings he conducts with health care providers.
