Eugene is one of the founding Board Members of SAGE Metro St. Louis, now SAGE of PROMO Fund. In that capacity, he volunteered time to assist with trainings, particularly in the area of Trans Education and Advocacy. Eugene has been educating and advocating around LGBT rights, since coming out in the early 1980’s.
After raising two daughters, and working in the field of security for more than 20 years, he returned to college, and graduated in 2004, as an honors program scholar, from St. Louis Community College at Forest Park. In 2009, Eugene successfully completed the ACRIA (AIDS Community Research Initiative of America) training on HIV and Aging, and began training around that issue as well. Eugene became a part-time staffer at SAGE Metro St. Louis in 2013, and became full-time in 2014. The merger with PROMO Fund, on July 1st, 2015, added depth to PROMO Fund and breadth to SAGE, who will now be able to extend their advocacy to the statewide level.
When not working, Eugene enjoys reading, listening to smooth jazz and blues, exploring history, and watching or attending Cardinals baseball games.
Favorite Training Experience: I enjoy seeing those “WOW” moments on training attendees faces, when something finally makes perfect sense to them, as it never has before. It is so rewarding!
