Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias

During this training, participants will focus on three key areas. First, information that providers can use to make sure their services are welcoming to LGBTQ+ people with dementia. Second, how to support caregivers who identify as LGBTQ+ – these may be partners of people with dementia, or they may be the adult children or friends of people with dementia. Finally – we will look at some ways that providers can help advocate for LGBTQ+ people with dementia, including working in your local communities to help reach LGBTQ+ people and make sure you can connect them to affirming services.

Asking Demographic Questions About Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

During this training, participants will be introduced to asking intake questions that are LGBTQ+ inclusive. They will understand how the current intake process may not take LGBTQ+ individuals into account. Participants will learn how to ask the questions, and become comfortable with the range of responses they may receive. Finally, participants will walk away with best practices on implementing inclusive intake processes at their organization.

This training is focused on providing you with valuable information that you can use in your work and your daily lives. After this training you will be able to explain the terms lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, as well as other terms that can be used with this community. You will be able to understand some needs of the LGBTQ+ older adults and their care networks. You will be introduced to the unique issues experienced by LGBTQ+ caregivers and LGBTQ+ older adults receiving care and learn some best practices for supporting this community.

Embracing LGBTQ+ Older Adults of Color

This presentation focuses on understanding and examining the common assumptions about LGBTQ+ older adults of color, and learning why they may have different needs and relationships with their identity than other LGBTQ+ older adults. During the training, participants will explore the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ older adults of color and leave with best practices for working with them. Participants will be introduced to important figures in the LGBTQ+ People of Color community, including information and resources for further learning.

HIV and Aging: Confronting Myths, Reducing Stigma, and Aging Successfully

During this presentation, participants will learn the common myths and stigma associated with HIV, and individuals living with HIV. Participants will explore the history of HIV within the LGBTQ+ community and issues that LGBTQ+ older adults may still be dealing with today as a result of living through the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in America. Participants will leave with best practices for culturally sensitive care.

Preventing and Responding to Bullying Between Older Adults

During this training, participants will understand the power dynamics that lead to bullying, and how to differentiate between bullying and other types of behavior. Participants will explore ways to engage stakeholders as bystanders and prevent bullying behavior. Finally, participants will walk away with information on how bullying specifically affects LGBTQ+ older adults, and ways to implement procedures to reduce and manage bullying.

Respected and Whole

During this interactive course, participants will explore 8 suggestions for preventing bias and creating inclusive services for LGBTQ+ older adults. The presentation will explore conflict resolution, and concrete programming ideas and policies to ensure that staff and constituents feel respected and safe. Participants will walk away with an understanding of how an inclusive environment can improve the health and happiness of both staff and constituents.

SB – Improving Aging Services for LGBTQ+ Older Adults

This course is a modified version of our online leadership training specifically for sole-proprietors and/or businesses with less than 15 employees. In this course, you will explore the unique needs of LGBTQ+ older adults and understand why some may not feel comfortable or safe receiving services. You will explore key concepts, policies, and procedures to create an inclusive environment and treat LGBTQ+ older adults with care.

Supporting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Older Adults

This training provides an introduction to the specific needs and experiences of LGBTQ+ older adults. You will learn the definition of terms such as Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and others. After this introduction to useful terminology, you will contextualize the lives of LGBTQ+ older adults through case studies and videos of real individuals, in order to understand why some LGBTQ+ older adults may choose not to come out. Finally, you will be connected to local and national resources, and receive some best practices to integrate into your work.

Transgender Older Adults: Information and Suggestions for Providers

This presentation provides a deeper dive into the lives and experiences of transgender older adults. Participants will be guided through the many choices that a transgender individual can make to live and express their gender identity, and best practices for understanding and validating those choices. This includes subjects such as relationships, names and pronouns, and different definitions of what it means to transitions. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of ways in which to support transgender older adult clients in their community.
